10 Night Nile Grand Tour Itinerary

Departing every week throughout the year

UK – Luxor – Afternoon departure from London Heathrow for your flight to Luxor. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your Nile cruiser. Modern Luxor, built upon the ancient city of Thebes, is host to the largest collection of ancient buildings in the world.

Luxor – Edfu / Esna – In the morning, cross the Nile to the West Bank to see the Valley of the Kings where the tombs of at least sixty ancient Pharaohs, including Tutankhamen, are located. Today’s excursion highlights include visits to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. In the afternoon, set sail from Luxor to Esna.

Edfu / Esna – Kom Ombo – After passing through Esna Lock, where your captain will show off his precision manoeuvring skills, we continue the short cruise to Edfu to view the Temple of Horus. Dating from 327 BC, this is the most completely preserved temple in Egypt being in near perfect condition. Later, we sail for Kom Ombo.

Kom Ombo – Aswan – Set on a sweeping bend in the Nile, the Temple of Kom Ombo is dedicated jointly to Horus and the crocodile headed God, Sobek. Your guided tour this morning will bring the Temple’s rich history to life. Lunch is served on board during the short trip south to Aswan. In the afternoon, visit the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and the magnificent Temple of Philae.

Aswan – Lake Nasser – After breakfast this morning, embark on a short felucca cruise around Elephantine Island and Kitchener’s Island from where you may see the splendid botanical gardens or view the Aga Khan Mausoleum which is situated on the western bank of the Nile. Later, you will be transferred to your Lake Nasser Cruise ship.

Cruising Lake Nasser – In the morning, sail to Qasr (Castle) Ibrim which still occupies its original position. Though now on an island, it was once situated on the eastern bank of the Nile. Then continue to Amadah Temple, built by Tuthmosis III and Amenhotep II before making your way to the rock cut Temple of Derr, which was at one time used as a Christian Church.

Cruising Lake Nasser – Today’s highlight is a guided excursion to the famed Temple of Abu Simbel, built by the greatest of the Pharaohs, Ramses II. It features four colossal statues of the seated Pharaoh and was dedicated to the God Amun-Ra. The Temple was moved to its present location in 1963, to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser, in an engineering effort worthy of its original construction.

Abu Simbel – Cairo – After breakfast disembark in Abu Simbel and transfer to the airport to board your flight to Cairo. On arrival in Cairo you will be transferred back to your hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure to visit some of Cairo’s famous sights including the Pyramids and the Sphinx at Giza
